The Weight of Stone — "What Remains"

The Essay

As both an etcher and a painter, David Young Cameron was drawn not to the fleeting moments of human activity, but to the enduring presence of the landscape and the structures rising from it.

He focused intensely on architecture, ruins, and the heavy atmosphere of Scotland. People leave. Walls remain. And the land remembers both. His works are dramatic yet sober, utilizing strong contrasts of light and shadow to carve out the immense, brooding weight of historical stone.

In the Studio

"In direct response to Cameron's etchings, my castle works are built with dark glazes and textured structural forms — exploring what remains deeply embedded in the land after people vanish."
